How to get to Koper

The University of Primorska Faculty of Humanities is located in the old town centre of Koper. The town has a main bus and train station a good 10-minute walk from the city centre to which most public transport is directed.

By train
You can arrive by train in Koper. However, most intercity trains arrive at Ljubljana or Trieste as the nearest main stations from which there are direct bus connections to Koper from both cities and train connections from Ljubljana. Ljubljana will also be the starting point for the pre-conference tour. The post-conference tour will end in Venice.

You may consider travelling part of the way on an overnight train as several services from different starting points go to Ljubljana.

We recommend checking all inland and international bus connections at: https://arriva.si/en/passenger-transport/international-transfers/ and all inland train connections to Koper at: https://potniski.sz.si/en/

How to get to Sighișoara

The closest airport to Sighișoara is Sibiu airport (95 km away). There are direct flights from Munich, Vienna, Venice and other hubs or flights with short layovers in Munich from most of the other major European cities. We will ensure transportation with the pre-conference tour, taking us on a journey through time in Hateg Country UNESCO Global Geopark, from Sibiu to Sighișoara. We’ll be picking up at the Sibiu airport, and in the city for those arriving earlier, at around 12.00 EET.

The second closest airport is Cluj-Napoca airport (155 km away). From there, you need to find your way to the Central train station. There are direct bus lines 5 and 8 which take approx. 26 min to the central area. From Cluj-Napoca Central train station there are three trains leaving to Sighisoara daily, they all take 3h30min to Sighișoara and the ticket costs 15 euro.

Another airport option is Bucharest airport (302 km away) where there are connections with all main cities. There is a train travelling from Bucharest Henri Coanda airport to North train station every 20 min and the ticket price is 1 euro. From the North train station, there are three trains daily leaving for Sighișoara; they take 6h to the destination and tickets cost under 20 euros.

Venue

The main conference venue will be at two places: below the 14th century citadel gate and clock tower (Strada Turnului, Sighișoara 545400) and in the Sighișoara City Hall (Piața Muzeului 7, Sighișoara 545400). Some presentation rooms are to be found within a short walking distance.

Arriving in Sighișoara

When arriving in Sighișoara, if your accommodation is in the old city centre then you may walk for 20 minutes to get there or call a taxi at +40 265-777-777 or via Bolt/Uber apps and be there in five minutes.

Accomodation

Sighișoara has plenty accomodation options, depending on your preferences and budget. We would advise you look closer to the old city center, in order to have easy access to all conference locations and enjoy the charm of the medieval town.

The participants to the conference can benefit from discounts at Hotel SighisoaraFronius and Hotel Imperial. For the discount to apply, you need to contact them by phone and mention the IE conference. A double room will thus cost 250-265 RON (aprox. 50-53 euro) and a single room 220-240 RON (aprox. 44-49 euro).

Going home

If your flight back home is from Sibiu airport, you might consider attending a post-conference tour, starting on Monday, after the conference, from Sighișoara, passing Bran Castle and staying overnight in Brașov, arriving on Tuesday at around 11.00 in Sibiu. If your flight back home is from other airports, such as Cluj-Napoca, you may take the same route back. If you travel back to Bucharest, you might take advantage of attending the post-conference tour, as either a bus or train leaves from Brașov to Bucharest every hour, with only a short connection (train or bus) to Bucharest airport.
